Dinu Bodiciu

...I hope people can find my designs uncanny rather than futuristic.

While completing his BA in Graphic Design in Romania, Dinu Bodiciu had the chance to attend a course in bookbinding. This was the point when he started to work very closely with fabrics and developed an interest in textiles, which is the driving force behind his designs. Dinu took his experience further with textiles in a collection of women bags launched in 2009. Encouraged by the positive feedback he received for this collection, Dinu decided to pursue a masters in design at London College of Fashion. He graduated in February, 2011 with a collection, inspired by the human posture and its reflection into the mirror. He amplified all the front details of the jacket (shoulders, colors, sleeves), leaving the back-part completely blank. He exaggerated the shapes as to create a flatness effect and play with perception. All the fabrics used, have an 'organic' nature, a bodily quality very close to skin colors. For him, garments are an extension of the body. Having this concept in mind, Dinu always creates designs that play with shapes and volumes, organic textures and visceral colours in order to enhance and modify our perception of the human body. Dinu's designs are an attempt not only to rediscover the human body, but to redefine it.

Nothing inspires me like...
The human body, its shape and volume. I am interested in organic forms and I am seduced by colours.

I hope…
People can find my designs uncanny rather than futuristic.

Cultural influences...
Jan Van Eyck, Velasquez, Matthew Barney, Bjork, Quay Brothers, Hans Bellmer.

I got where I am...
Because I love doing what I am doing and because I've being pushed by Anca.

Fashion can sometimes...
Forget that it must intrigue, rather than conform.

If I could…
Be a film character I would be Willy Wonka from “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” or the character Jean Baptiste Genouille from the novel, The Perfume.

Creativity comes from…
Going to clubs and closing the eyes while listening to high volume music.

Cake makes me…
Eat them all. I like sweets more than any other foods and especially the ones made at home”.

My first crush...
With fashion was at the age of 9, when I first watched a fashion show on TV.

My biggest regret...
Is that I hadn't started doing fashion earlier.

I like making...
Any objects with my hands, cakes, cookies and other sweets. I also like to climb mountains and walk into old forests.

My mum...
Was working on the sewing machine when I was little and that's why I love the sound of the sewing machine, it makes me feel safe.

Did you know…
That I studied Pharmacy as my first BA?

I once thought…
That I will manage to have the greatest collection of Cacti in the world. I stopped when I left home to become a designer.

I'm a perfectionist…
Never, (this is a problem).

The earliest memory...
I can recall is from when I was 8 months old.
