Designer for Tomorrow Finalists
...the chosen five meet Marc Jacobs who came to Berlin to view the collections.
The decision has been made: Marc Jacobs, patron of the fashion talent award “Designer for Tomorrow” for the second time, and this year’s jury have chosen the Top 5 from more than 350 international applicants: NJAL's Ramil Makinano (Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design), Camilla Salgaard Nielsen (Birmingham Institute of Art and Design), Leandro Cano Luque (CEADE Leonardo), Laura Williams (University of Westminster) and Siddhartha Anselm Meyer (Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee) will be presenting their collections at the awards show in July 2012 during the Mercedes-‐Benz Fashion Week Berlin.
Patron Marc Jacobs met the newcomer designers personally for the first time yesterday and discussed the collections with them. He saw a wide variety of fashion ideas: Camilla Salgaard Nielsen is presenting a women’s collection in puristic black with sophisticated cuts. Voluptuous forms can be found in Leandro Cano Luque's look, which is rounded off by textiles with eye-‐catching surface structures. The ideas from Ramil Makinano are high-‐contrast and in neon colors. Laura Williams works with accents in chunky knits and orange. Siddhartha Anselm Meyer is the only one in the Top 5 presenting a men’s collection with strong colours.
“Camilla, Laura, Leandro, Ramil and Siddhartha are very talented designers whose fashions set them apart from the other applicants. Their concepts are well-‐rounded. The collections presented by the five finalists reflect their personalities and are accessible to a wide public. This is a considerable challenge for young designers,” said Marc Jacobs after viewing the collections. Together with the jury, the New York-‐based designer will be selecting this year’s “Designer for Tomorrow” in July at the upcoming Mercedes-‐Benz Fashion Week Berlin. A long-‐term promotional program running for almost one year awaits the winner.
This year’s jury:
