...award winning, forward thinking Brazilian designer with a love of pop culture and chocolate cake. Sometimes both at the same time!

Brazilian Mario Francisco has had quite the action packed career to date. Chosen as the top designer in his class at Faculdade SENAC in São Paulo, he was awarded a 3-month placement with the renowned ESMOD in Paris. Soon after, he won another trip to Paris through a competition run in partnership with SENAC and M. Martan – one of Brazil’s largest home textile retailers. After his S/S 2009 collection the press called Francisco’s label – Der Metropol – the best new brand and the biggest surprise of the season and has since been a permanent fixture of the Casa de Criadores fashion week. The Der Metropol brand is recognized for its innovative proposal, technical quality and contemporary design.

Money makes…
you free! It gives you the freedom to do many things. To visit places, feel things and meet people. But passion is more important than money.

Cake makes me…
fat, but I like it anyway. It gets worse specially when it’s a chocolate one, which makes it impossible to stop eating until the very last piece

Creativity comes from…
some kind of unexplainable and uncontrollable energy that comes at the most unexpected moments.

I have never…
thought that things and images that appear in my mind could lead to such efficient communication with people. All I needed to do was transform those images into clothes.

Pain comes from…
personal evolution and growth.

NYC/London/Paris/Milan is…
like a big fashion playground where I suppose one feels like a kid in Disneyland.

I'm a perfectionist…
and sometimes this makes life even harder. But at the same time, it makes you push everything to the edge and forces you to do things you never thought you would be able to do.

I get bored easily...
with pretentious people and their pretentious attitudes!

I love getting older...
because I get to see my beard turn white! I've always thought that as quite charming.
