Amy Glenn

...the word fashion can dictate conformity.

Gender neutral silhouettes are accented with a line of minimalist accessories. Hand-dipped triple dyed fabrics are dried by the sun, leather is washed and molded, rocks and stones bound by metals. Each piece is a canvas, created and designed by hand, one at a time. Using a monochromatic palate, Amy creates a line that translates her artistic vision. She is committed to the elusive and apparent, to protection and refusal, the seen and the unseen, integration of the known and unknown. Her Method: Occultation, erosion and alchemy. Amy has always created distinctive pieces; for the past 10 years she worked in the TV, film, and music industry in Los Angeles and abroad. In 2010 she committed full time to her own creative work. Each piece stands alone. The collections do not fit into any categories, they are extemporaneous and come from a point of rapture, an inner code, from devastation to devotion.

Nothing inspires me like...
Autonomy, transformation, not mirroring another. Individuality and the balance to know that we are a part of the past, the future and the ancient, yet maintain a personal sentiment of today in the moment. Nature, detritus, ancestry, mastery and craftsmanship. The religion of roots. Devotion, the broth of the mind, genuine encounters. Silence. What lives at the edges. Opposites and complementariness. I am inspired by mystery. The tension of pain and sorrow must be washed and rinsed and dried and washed and rinsed again until the unspoken is visible. One’s triumphs are a legacy.

I hope...
Each piece in my collection translates as a second skin, an adornment that seamlessly reflects not only the essence of one’s inside, but also the outside-a synchronicity, a sensorium, each piece like a syllable to the whole.

Cultural influences...
The globe, depth, the grandmother, those with age and time who have woven myth.

I got where I am...
With courage, knowing, nakedness.

Fashion can sometimes...
Stifle, repulse, mystify, consume, invite nostalgia, impose itself, become predatory, a well-kept moment of sanitation, of engineering a persona, making one feel wanted and having a place within the world: a transformation. The staged procession of beauty, the parade of fashion throughout history has nourished the senses. Sometimes fashion becomes mimicry, often the word fashion can dictate conformity, absence.

I sense...
I intuit, If blindfolded I navigate from the sensorial spectrum.

I scream when...
Nothing needs to be said, yet something is known, sometimes between two people, sometimes a simple knowing within.

Did you know...
It is important to restructure your thinking daily, dissect your gaze, listen to the evidence without automatically wanting to grasp it, not to stick to the web of symptoms. Attraction for me comes from the ugly in nature and the beautiful, the grotesque and serene. Life inhabits and demands compassion. The placenta of being is given to us at birth, a glaze, a film, a substance.Too pretty is not attractive. The temperature of calculation is dangerous. Intervene.

Creativity comes from...
What is beyond words, a thirst, a hunger, the hunt, patience, an unspoken gift, metamorphosis, the banquet of polarities and irony, mystery and tension, fermentation and the visceral. Creativity can not be lead on a leash like a docile animal.

If I could...
Create daily without life pressure I would be free, yet might not have the component for some of what creativity needs. Therefore, I can breathe in the answer of creativity, seeking that which is palpable.

I once thought...
Eccentricities were a challenge, yet now I see the source of creativity in them. Rather than shying away from the gift of originality, I now see it as a pillar in my progress. The spear that strikes the intelligence, igniting a flood of ideas from one person to another, can pierce the darkness and bring light.

My dreams are...
To travel the world, connect and collect what is most unique and create continuously. Eat and be nourished by the farmers of the land, drink the wines and waters from the wells and wisdom from the efforts of labor and time and passion, love surrounding and within. Be taught by master craftsmen and women, hold the flame of the torch of creation.

My future is...
Just beginning, bright, bold. The beginning of my Oeuvre. I look towards what lies submerged, from the pier above water, fierce and enduring. Wisdom is elegance. Intent, beginning and beginning again. Seeking Life Force. A metaphor for transcendence and time, implying a leap into the unknown.

I've been a Buddhist...
I’ve practiced Buddhism for 25 years.

My biggest regret...
I have no regrets.
