Graduation year

2014

Brazilian designer and London College of Fashion alumna Mariana Jungmann created her eponymous women’s wear label in 2013. Her MA graduate collection was one of the ten selected to represent the college in their London Fashion Week show in February 2014. At the following season she did her solo debut show with Fashion Scout.
Having as her trademark the use of Renaissance lace, every season the designer creates an imaginary lace world, which has always enchanted her. Jungmann uses traditional hand-made material from the northeast region of Brazil, produced exclusively for the brand. Her designs turn the abstract and floral shapes of the lace into something modern and intriguing, using a perfected moulding technique that create seamless, three-dimensional pieces that are more resistant than traditional ones made with the fabric. The work with lace is not restricted to the material itself, being translated into different textiles and textures via prints and laser cutting among other methods, creating the label’s powerful visuals.

In its brief existence Mariana Jungmann has already appeared in the pages of some of the most important and influential publications in the UK and abroad, from Vogue, Glamour, Independent, Telegraph, I-D, Elle Brazil, to Time Out London, which named Jungmann one of the new designers to watch. The brand has also graced the cover of The Times as well as the fashion segment of OGlobo.
