James is a London based Menswear Designer who finds the bold, brash side of menswear his inspiration. With an unapologetic approach to design and a youthful fresh aesthetic James captures the imaginary and boisterous side of Menswear. Born and raised in London, Inspired by society and his surroundings he finds the city and its ever changing youth culture a driving force behind his design process. “It’s always about expanding and developing my own gang...
creating beautiful garments and collections which become wrapped up in the story and eventually come alive...” James began his studies at the University of Salford and in 2013 graduated from the M.A Menswear programme at the Royal College of Art. During his educational career James has gone on to win numerous accolades and achievements; including the British Fashion Council/Burberry Competition 2011, Italian Vogue Portfiolio Feature 2011 and won the I.F.F/Joop! Competition 2013. Alongside studying James has gone on to assist fellow designers such as Stefan Orschel-Read, Rebecca Cotterell and even attended the Brioni Tailoring School in partnership with the RCA Menswear programme whilst upon his M.A. James is constantly looking to push the boundaries of contemporary menswear in an attempt to bring the audience into his world through smart conceptual design, strong masculine silhouettes and a playful almost dark undertone. Wallpaper* Magazine has featured Pilcher in their January 2014 Issue of Best New Design Talent.
