Feeling with sight and seeing with touch - Charlotte Barry represents exquisite craftsmanship, detail, and innovative combinations of techniques and materials. The amalgamation of age-old handwork techniques with modern and digital methods creates a symphony of textiles that captures and infatuates sight and touch. ‘Exceptional design stems from learning your craft, and learning it well. Through specialising in textile design for fashion, notably in embroidery and print, I have developed a style that focuses on beautiful surfaces that seduce the eye and encourage touch. In this way I find my ideas grow into clean silhouettes with a focus on details, for example, the shapes of seamlines, allowing the heavily intricate textiles to shine. From an initial concept I like to focus on colour palettes and the aesthetic and feeling of the collection, and from this experiment with textile ideas and constructions, immersing myself in the visual.’
