About the Designer

Catherine is based in London, Switzerland. Her collections are produced in Switzerland.

Through my final collection I tried to generate a fresh vision in menswear while reflecting the grey zone between fashion and art. I interpret fashion artefact as extending the potential of art and craft in fashion and not to isolate the definition of fashion.
In my eyes, the everyday surprise collection is a form of minimal leather couture. Traditional craftsmanship was put into the contemporary context of design. Every single piece of the objects is hand made -the physical act of making was of great importance in the design process. Driven by my own aesthetics I tried to create a unique style coupled with a high quality finish.
The essence of my work lies in the studio-based technique: I experimented from the start in 3D with the final materials –hairsheep nappa leather, chains, ropes…and entrapped them under the animal skin to create structure on the surface. Equally important to me was to look at everyday objects from a different angle, to put them in a new context, to play with details and proportions and let the inputs guide me to my final designs. Those two approaches worked symbiotically and were always in balance.
The objects were chosen by their connection to my everyday inspiration but also by its relation of the possibility in showing a specific technique.
My collection of artefacts should be understood as wearable art.
