CAMILLAMIKAMA

The theme for the s/s 2012 collection is escapism, the modern individual's need for finding alternatives, a need to see the world around you - and yourself - in a different light. Fashion, as any form of art, can let your mind travel to far-away destinations. I wanted to express this feeling by shooting the collection in the middle of the Finnish nature, to give the pictures a dream-like and even unreal atmosphere. The striped fabric is vintage silk, which was a great find as I strive to use as ecological materials as possible. The other materials include for example bamboo viscose and industry residue materials from which the crocheted garments and accessories are made. All the products are water-washable and manufactured in Estonia and Finland. Photography: Petri Kovalainen, Hair&MakeUp: Marii Sadrak, Model: Pirita/Brand

Camilla Mikama is a Finland-based designer label named after its designer, who studied fashion design in Finland in the Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Institute of Design and in Spain in the Escola Superior de Disseny, in Barcelona. She graduated in 2007.
In addition to designing her own collection she has worked for big companies in Finland and abroad, and done various freelance design projects.
Camilla Mikama uses unconventional cutting, layering and folding to create interesting shapes and volumes and three-dimensional surfaces. Her aim is to design edgy and unique but highly wearable pieces for the everyday life. She believes that clothes should enable the wearer to reflect their own personality and therefore she often designs garments that can be quickly altered, mixed and dressed in multiple ways, up or down. Together with a great fit and the highest quality standards this makes them the wardrobe's favourite pieces.
