BETTENCOURT

CONDUCTIVE WIRE OF LIFE, SS12 What connects us all? How do our journeys cross? What makes our life's wire tangle? What makes you remember? A shared moment, an experience, an interaction Gestures, feelings, sensations, intertwined perceptions, make up the base fabric of life represented through light, colour and shape. The journey from old to new, the connection from memory to contemporaneity weaves itself in our shared experiences. This collection is about our interaction as human beings, how our journeys cross, how our wires of life entangle. The same moment is experienced in different ways depending on the perspective. The inspiration is the map built in the designer's mind when imagining these journeys, these wires and the cross roads. Nowadays the literary representation of our connections as human beings is the electricity, the wires that connect us all in the world.

Susana is from the Azores Islands in Portugal and after finishing her BA degree in Fashion Knitwear she felt that the natural next step would be to continue to specialize in knitwear through the MA Honours Digital Fashion program which she concluded with Distinction. Susana's current collection is inspired by particular African Tribes whose mourning traditions are marked by joyful rituals, extolling the good memories with strength and determination to regain joy in life. During the ritual, wounds are created in the skin as a representation of the emotional injury and as the wound heals the person not only feels they are healing physically but also emotionally.
